What did you do to your TJ today?

I switched tops on my LJ and got the soft one on just before the rain came. I got a great deal on a complete used top back in January. It appeared to be in excellent shape but you never know until you get it on. It was a lot easier to put on than my old one ... good zippers being the difference.

So I noticed yesterday some clanking/ratting going on under the Jeep, upon further investigation I noticed that the tail pipe from the muffler back was so rusted out that the weld had completely broken and the pipe was basically just connected to the hangers, banging and clanking around; so, for a short-term solution, I just did this:

Ripped the rusted pipe out leaving the muffler attached. I know it's a short-term solution, but man, doesn't that sound like a v8 now? lol

Un-spooled the steel line, took the winch off the plate with the roller fair lead, put the hawse fair lead on, put the winch back on the plate, re-installed the front bumper, mounted the plate with the winch, attached the power cables, spooled the synthetic line, attached the thimble, re-attached the stock tow hooks, re-attached the stock fog lights (don't quite fit), and put the hi-lift on the bumper. Put the hard top back on due to rain.
Considered the next phase: deep cycle batteries?

Started looking at rear bumpers with a tow rating.

Hmm, 33 or 36?

@Brian Armstrong, how do your stickers hold up on the soft top windows. I have some stickers that I want to put on the Jeep, but I don't really want them on the body. I think they would look much better on the windows.

@Ryan Thomas, good work! I did mine also the same way and I loved the end result. What I regret is doing my hood hinges and rear swing door hinges. They began to crack and peel. Hard to do good prep on hinges since then rotates when u open them.

That is a nifty idea!!! I am always breaking my back taking the hardtop off and on. I usually do it by myself, the last time I almost dropped the dang thing. I might build that at the right height and be able to back up too it and almost slide the top right off!

damn, what technique do you use to get the top off by yourself?

Normally it requires a couple of saw horses. The first few times when I was by myself, I would get in the back and lift it up and slide it back far enough, then step out, lift and then squat to the ground! Did that twice, no fun.
Then I used a couple of saw horses so I didn't have to go to the ground. After I built the carport, it got easy, just winch it up, drive out and then lower it on my trailer. The only bad thing is I can't use the trailer for anything! Lol

I went from the typical shitty rusty door latches, to nice freshly blackened door latches!
Some brown paper, a lot of blue tape, a fair amount of wire wheeling, and some good ol' Rustoleum Flat Black Enamel!

I feel so much better not seeing that rust now. Not perfect, but *SO* much better!
