Would you own a JK/JL instead of a TJ, if money was not an issue?

I just sold my JL and I’m in the market for a low mileage LJ - Let me know if you know of one that’s priced well -

My reasoning is simple, I wanted a Jeep to do Jeep things. I’m normally solo in the Jeep during the week and on the weekend at most have one maybe two kids and one dog. We have a large family car and the JL really can’t fit 2-3 kids comfortably plus dogs plus bags on a long trip. For Jeep things the JL is financially burdensome and electronics aren’t a big draw for me.

I had a TJ and miss the utilitarian feeling of a Jeep that isn’t caught in between Jeep and car. There are better options for long drives with the dogs and family - Just like there are better options if I need to haul something.

When I find an LJ in good shape I plan to keep it that way and pass that sucker down. Cars and Jeep’s keep getting bigger and seemingly unnecessarily complex. I can add what I may miss to the JL using proven aftermarket parts.

I’d have a fleet like Jay Leno if money were no issue.

If a JL had bigger engine yes, might already have one, but still would want to hang on to my TJ.

I'm still toying with the idea of a new Rubicon 392. I have never done anything that crazy in my life, but I can.
Take your pick - white has a hellcat , blue is 392

I'm not a fan of the gold trim, tow hooks etc. There are none within 250 miles of me on dealer lots. Local dealer said they won't get one for 18 months. Last check there were 9 within 250 miles of central IL where I grew up and have family. One dealer there was asking 20k over sticker.

I can believe it. If the production run is somewhat finite they will be really sought after.

I suspect a huge pre-determined bias to the answers in this thread based on the fact that this is a TJ based forum :) Ask the same question on a JK/JL form and I bet the bias is reversed.

Probably, but I wonder how many JK/JL owners have never owned a TJ. The reverse definitely doesn't seem to be the case from the comments here.

Glad the question isn't XJ instead of a TJ.

Oof. This hits really close to home. I've owned 6 XJs and loved every one of them. Just getting into my first TJ now, but I'm pretty sure I'll love it every bit as much.

say hypothetically someone offers you a brand new JK or JL. For free. BUT there is a catch. You cannot own a TJ at the same time. Would you do it?
Fun question, but an easy answer. TJ for the win. Sure the JL is objectively "better" in many ways (maybe even in some off road situations). But its bigger and more refined and harder to work on (more SUV-like). When my TJ fell into my lap a couple of years ago, I didn't even know I was looking for one. But it was instantly obvious that I had to pick it up. I love cars, but rarely does one speak to me like that.
