Alex01 Silver Sport Build Thread

Top bolts on the tranny bellhousing, but I only surmised from the fact they are really weird and I knew you were thinking about doing the clutch. I don’t think mine are the same. I believe mine are an E-5.
E5 would be close to a 5mm bolt. I believe I read they are all e-12

Clutch doesn't look too bad, not great but I expected a bit worse. The throw out bearing is toast.

I assume there is a diy for extending the breather on the trans. It's pretty pathetic.

I'd have to find it but I seem to remember somewhere reading about them tapping the hole. Then putting a fitting into it with a line from there.

Yeah, I’m with Mike, don’t care to do that job again either.

E-5, my memory is likely failing me!

Have fun. It’ll be worth it. It was my TOB too, but I replaced all of it anyway.

Same here, can't imagine anyone would do all that work for a TOB and not do the clutch while they were in there.

Be sure not to use the throw out bearing by LUK, ill try to see if I can dig up my receipt on what I used, but I was told by lots of people here that the luk TOB is made of plastics and is absolute junk.

Edit: Go with a National or centerforce TOB. I used national. They are made of all metal rather than plastics. Ive been told horror stories of the LUK ones grenading

Thanks, I didn't know that. Luckily amazon will have it here tomorrow so it won't slow me down too much.

Does anyone know where I can find the dust boot for the NV3550? Mine has a bit of a tear in it. If I'm going to extend the breather it seems silly not to replace the boot.

I used the dreaded plastic TOB. 45K miles on it so far, (knocks on wood).

I used the Luk TOB too. That was after a lot of research bc I saw the same reviews about having problems and people going for the National. Claim was always the same, metal vs plastic, duh. I concluded it wasn’t that simple and TOB started changing materials in the late 1970’s for a reason. Luk is still using them despite the reviews out there that they suck. Why would Luk do that? Some of these people may have done something wrong on install. Who knows?

I came up with a slightly different idea for the breather hose using some air compressor parts I had laying around. It's a 1/4 npt (both female) with a hose fitting. I'll replace the hose fitting with a barb tomorrow and tap the breather line into the same line as the atlas.

All I had to do was drill out the threads on one side and it was a great fit with just enough pressure to make me feel confident. I put some rtv inside just to be sure it's waterproof and a liberal amount around the base of the fitting.

If they sell a 90° into a barb I'll likely go that route though for the final product....

I figured you’d do something better. I wasn’t overly impressed with what they did on getahelmet. Of course, I did nothing despite knowing I should have raised that breather tube on mine. Nice work

I think v02 will turn out a bit cleaner. Now that I have a proof of concept it's easier to invision. 1 solid piece would be nicer than 2 (even though I'll never see it).

RP or Red Line for the trans fluid change? Which ever is cheaper?
