Do I need adjustable upper control arms

The installation process can be learned in this video. In the video they are working on a Rubicon but the concept and even the control arms themselves are the same.

Do I need adjustable upper control arms

Yes you need adjustable control arms. Ultimately you will need your pinion to be pointed almost perfectly in-line with the drive shaft. This is expertly ;) explained in the video below.

Is this lateral play bad on u-joint rear driveshaft?

Yes, that is an issue that needs to be addressed. It could be any of the following. The joint is worn out. Usually the joints don't wear on the ends though so without side to side (felt when rotating the shaft) play in the joint and bearing cap I don't think this is a wear issue. The joint...

    Driveline length

Hi everyone. Thanks to those who have recommended us. Here's some answers to questions. Yes, you can get a shaft now that will work now and will also work when you install the tummy tuck. Just make sure to get the shaft built with a long spline, what we call the X spline and XC slip yoke. This...

Engaging 4x4 keeps pulling driveshaft out rear diff and breaking stuff

I'm going to echo everyone else and request pictures. I think a lot of the guesses above are good guesses but will personally hold off on guessing until pictures are posted. Too many possible answers.

05 TJ Unlimited Rear Driveshaft Not Fitting

Watch this video, it will explain the SYE, drive shaft, and pinion adjustment. Wherever you order the SYE make sure to get a standard SYE and not a super short as Jerry mentioned above nor a hack and tap. Also, make sure it is in stock. I know for a fact that right now there are a lot of people...

    SYE and Tom Wood's driveshaft

@Horita Ideally, but at a certain point we are really splitting hairs. A 1" t-case drop probably only affects the drive shaft length by about 3/8". So you can either estimate and add in that 3/8" to account for the removal of the transfer case drop or remove it before you measure.

    SYE and Tom Wood's driveshaft

Yes. You can get it pretty close by "guesstimating" what the angle of the drive shaft will be. You can maybe use a string line or a piece of pipe or something then just hold it up to where the double cardan (cv) will be and measure the angle of that. The pinion angle adjustment doesn't need to...

    SYE and Tom Wood's driveshaft

@CNYJeeper There is a 3rd and better option. You can measure as shown in whichever photo below is applicable to your vehicle. I don't know what vehicle you are working on but a tj will be the top photo and a yj will be the bottom photo. This math applies to almost every SYE on the market...

    SYE and Tom Wood's driveshaft

@CNYJeeper There are typical lengths of drive shafts for different types of vehicles but for many vehicles I would never use the word "standard" as there can be quite a few different possibilities. This is in part to the stock vehicle having several different options but more than anything due...

Do I have a slip yoke eliminator?

As the guys above stated, super short SYE. My guess is also JB Conversions. It has to be either them or Teraflex. I think both companies have changed the design slightly in the past few years so the yoke you have does not look like the the same yoke you'd get if you ordered the same thing now...

    New Tom Wood driveshaft question

One more reason I advocate using a 16 oz hammer to install u-joints. We're installing joints, not forging a broadsword.

Driveshaft angle after 4 inch lift install

    U-joint Questions

Jerry is as always spot on with his information. For the front shaft make sure you don't overlook the socket yoke (centering ball). A spicer part number for the socket yoke is 211355X. This is for a greaseable socket yoke and your stock one is non-greaseable but the rubber boot/shield that seals...

    New Tom Wood driveshaft question

I figured it was! But you never know, we still sometimes get calls where people have their heart set on talking to Tom personally. We *normally* do great work. Sometimes we leave extra needle bearings on the trunnions of the u-joints.

    New Tom Wood driveshaft question

I don't know why it's being said to not accept my answer and to only accept an answer from Tom but you'll have to settle for my answer. Tom (my dad) is for all intents and purposes retired. I still talk to him several times a week about the business but regarding day to day things he no longer...

Should I install a SYE kit?

That is true. A JB or Teraflex super short SYE uses different math. They shorten up the output of the transfer case an additional 3" which means you would measure as shown in the photo, add/subtract nothing, and that's your post SYE drive shaft length. We've left that out of the text in the...

Should I install a SYE kit?

The short answer is yes, install an SYE and run a double cardan style rear shaft. An explanation on this can be found by watching this video . Also, you don't need to install the SYE before measuring for the right length drive shaft. Measure and follow the instructions shown in the photo below.
