    Bump stops catch on springs

It's not. The pinion angle is ok to my understanding, but the caster is off. Is bumpstop hanging up bc the axle is rolled forward?

    Bump stops catch on springs

These pics are what I'm talking about. When the axle drops, a coil or two slips past the end of the bump stop, then as the axle comes back up each coil hangs up on the bottom of the bump stop as the spring compresses.

    Bump stops catch on springs

So I've had my TJ for about 2 months and learned something I hadn't noticed til today. The driver's front bumpstop catches on the spring when it flexes down, then once that side comes back up it slips off the spring. I compared sides and it seems that the driver's side is bent towards the front...

Steering wander and front axle movement

Bumpsteer, wandering, death wobble, no return to center at all, etc. With the bumpsteer part the steering wheel doesn't turn but the Jeep is constantly going crazy and it's influenced by bumps and dips in the road. I drive a 18 year old, over weight, GMC 6500 for work and it's drives better than...

Steering wander and front axle movement

I really don't want to hijack someone's post but I feel like this group of guys have some good knowledge I need. I don't know the lift and its given me problem after problem since I bought the Jeep. I measured my springs and came up with the lift being 5". Do I need this pitman arm or a stock one?

    Knocking sound at idle

That's a wrap for this thread. Ended up that bent bolt didn't mess up the threads so, a replacement bolt and the other three tightened up with a dab of loctite and the noise is gone. Thank you all for your advice. I'm sure I'll need it again. Hopefully later than sooner

    Knocking sound at idle

How long are the bolts? Seen an xj video and they seem short. Short enough to where this bolt I'm referring to may not even be started in the threads actually

    Knocking sound at idle

It's the flexplate bolts. Figured it'd be the easiest thing to check. Three of the four bolts we're loose and there's one that looks like somebody crossthreaded it and left it, or it's back itself so far out it hit something and bent itself. So I tightened the other three just for s&g's and the...

    Knocking sound at idle

What could possibly be loose inside the oil pan but not be a piston or rod or bearing or something like that? Could the oil pump come loose? Or maybe the pickup screen? Or something along those lines?

    Knocking sound at idle

Sounds like a loose heat shield on an exhaust manifold, but theres not one of them I don't think

    Knocking sound at idle

This is cold start, RPMs at 1000 then let off and dropped to idle which is when the sound gets loud. Still smooth as can be at when giving it any throttle at all

    Knocking sound at idle

Once the rpms come up any at all or you out it in any gear the noise stops. Doesn't matter if it's cold or warm

    Knocking sound at idle

BTW guys, I took a video with the camera on my phone and turns out it's too long to share with y'all lol. I'll see if I can find something that matches the sound and share it. Otherwise, it's cold and late and I ain't going back outside til tomorrow

    Knocking sound at idle

This is a cold start and then rev just up to 1k That's exactly what it does. Not to doubt you or any other members but I don't see how the timing chain would make the sound underneath the motor though. I mean you can hear it all around but it seems to originate from underneath

    Knocking sound at idle

So as I'm sitting here draining water out of my work truck since it's going to be cold tonight in Alabama, I'm rereading all y'all's posts and the only way I can describe the sound is as if you out a steel ball in the oil pan and it has a string loosely attached from it to one of the pistons and...

    Knocking sound at idle

It drives fine, doesn't miss or act like it's close to being out of time though. If there was enough slack there, to be making THIS noise wouldn't there likely be performance issues also?

    Knocking sound at idle

Can you really do that? I'm not a mechanic but I'm not afraid to go after it myself. But, like the saying goes, I don't have money to just throw at it hoping to fix it

    Knocking sound at idle

It doesn't sound like lifter tick, and I'm sure there is an exhaust manifold leak but laying under the Jeep I could tell it's coming from the bottom of the motor. I'll try to get a video when I get back home
