Question for southeast TJ owners regarding interior mildew

Our 2002 SE was originally from Perry, Florida. Spent a few months near Georgia before winding up with us, south of Tallahassee. The only "top" is the OEM with the Clover safari bags making it more of a straight safari top. The Jeep is parked under our house on a concrete slab. We are on five...

    2 point seatbelts?

I have finally decided that we will be adding a Smittybilt rear seat to our 2002 SE that had the rear seat delete. Our TJ is rarely used (but definitely loved!)...just as a pure pleasure vehicle on nice days, but we'd like to have the ability to have a couple of friends join us on rare...

Can you use the heater control panel for Tjs with a/c on a TJ that doesn't have a/c?

Great news. Now we may be able to get some heat and defrost functions on those chilly nights (okay, we are in Florida!) when we want to take the Jeep for a spin. That's what I was hoping...a switch to control the a/c clutch and possibly an additional vacuum circuit for the recirculate function...

Can you use the heater control panel for Tjs with a/c on a TJ that doesn't have a/c?

Faced with possibly replacing the control panel and blend door actuators on my 2002 TJ. Prior owner had disconnected the vacuum at the engine. I haven't tested it yet, but I am assuming it was disconnected due to a vacuum leak in the lines, blend door actuators or control panel. Most all of the...

Clutch / Transmission / Slave Cylinder Driving me Crazy!

Perhaps my use of the term "valving" would not be correct..perhaps "port". At any rate...a quick search yielded this from a Jaguar forum that describes a chap with similar problem...new clutch but the slave cylinder not retracting fully resulting in a progressive clutch slip. "Hello chaps, I’m...

Clutch / Transmission / Slave Cylinder Driving me Crazy!

Thanks. I think that had to be the most likely cause. At least I will have all new parts going in...I didn't bother with the rear main or input shaft seals...they were dry and appeared in good condition. The fact that the master/slave might have not been retracting didn't occur to me...even when...

Clutch / Transmission / Slave Cylinder Driving me Crazy!

This post struck a note as I am (leisurely) doing my clutch job. I am, realistically, the second owner of my 2002 SE that had 143,000 miles on it. According to the paperwork, a clutch job was done at 92,000 miles, so I was surprised that despite feeling excellent when initially purchased, the...

Gap between slave cylinder and bell housing?

Just because I had planned on going into this new-to-me Jeep and starting totally fresh on all of the parts relating to the clutch replacement--which it needed. TO bearing, pilot bearing, new rear main seal, flywheel and ring gear, clutch and pressure plate, slave and master cylinders...and a...

Tips on removing top nut on transfer case?

Well, the nasty nut is vanquished! The half-moon wrench idea made me try my distributer wrench again (after I already ordered a set of half-moons, flex sockets and stubby ratcheting wrenches--can't have TOO may tools, can we?) I found that I had some stiction in my tranny jack, so I was able to...

Gap between slave cylinder and bell housing?

I didn't think there should have been any gap. My thought is that the clutch was worn and the original owner wanted to sell it, so they backed off the slave cylinder in order to make up for the loss of clutch plate lining...again, similar to loosening the linkage in a manual clutch setup to...

Gap between slave cylinder and bell housing?

When I first got the Jeep, the clutch felt great. Fast forward about 1,200 miles of light driving and it began slipping in 4th gear while pulling a 5X8 utility trailer. Over the next few months it got worse. The pedal had little freeplay, so, if the clutch linkage was mechanical, my thought...

Tips on removing top nut on transfer case?

I have sort of a half-moon wrench in my distributor wrench...those above look like they might have the difference in angle that would be helpful--mine is a larger arc. I have stubby wrenches (non-ratcheting) that I will see if I can get on the silly nut, but I am starting to realize that, at...

Tips on removing top nut on transfer case?

Yes, right now I have the safety stand with a block of wood under the oil pan and the high lift transmission jack under the transfer case. I backed off of the safety stand and lowered the transmission jack to where I can barely get my hand (can't get two right now) on top of the shift...

Tips on removing top nut on transfer case?

I have a straight shot to the top transmission/bellhousing bolts so I don't anticipate (who does?) problems there. Its the nut/stud at 1 o'clock on the transfer case behind the sheet metal linkage bracket that's the bugger...compounded by a cylindrical casting sticking out about 1.5 inches from...

Tips on removing top nut on transfer case?

Thanks, Jerry, I hoped you would chime in. Actually, the E12s on the tranny had been replaced with hex heads (I have external Torx sockets) and the nuts on the transfer case are 9/16 hex.

Tips on removing top nut on transfer case?

Trying to remove the transfer case, then the transmission to do a clutch job. Thought about removing the transfer case along with the transmission...but I am working alone and it seemed to be more popular to separate the two first. My TJ is up on my lift and I have two high-lift hydraulic...

The Official Jeep Wrangler TJ Oxygen (O2) Sensor Thread

Got it! Took a pointed scribe and then a small screwdriver to lever the inside half. Whew! Kim

The Official Jeep Wrangler TJ Oxygen (O2) Sensor Thread

Actually, yes. I may break out some vice-grips to get a better grip on the two halves, but I suspect it may be a little brittle due to age and I am trying to avoid KOing the thing. I feel it's silly, as I have worked on stuff for decades, and have had no problems with other emission control...
