05 LJ difficult starting

Good morning, I have a 2005 LJ with 51k original miles that I recently obtained. The jeep drives great but has been having difficulty starting recently. The jeep cranks but doesn't start right away. If I turn the ignition switch on and off 2-3 times then it will start right up. From what I have read it may be something with the fuel pump valve. Additionally, I just had a check engine light come on for P0301. Could this be related at all?

My question is: What do you think is the issue, and what is the best part to replace it with? Thank you!

Fuel pump check valve is not holding pressure.

You can get an OEM Bosch from Rock Auto or Amazon.

Would you recommend replacing just the check valve or entire fuel pump assembly? Also any other parts to order while I'm at it?

You have to drop the tank, replace the whole assembly. I'm not even sure you can get a check valve separately.

I replaced my filler neck and filler hose and all my vent lines. 20 year old rubber. Also a good time to replace the rear axle vent line...it runs up there.

I used a BrutePower pump assembly from Rock Auto for my 97. Running just fine 6-8 months later and it took me from Oregon, down the Rubicon Trail and back.

Also, you might need a new lock ring for the pump if the Jeep has ever been anywhere where the roads are salted.

If you have the fuel spit back issue, now is the time to fix that as well.

Well while you are doing the fuel pump might as well drop the 2k on the GenRight 31.5 gallon fuel tank for 05 lj....i love my 500 mile range

Seems costly for an extra 11 gallons of fuel. Not sure I'd pay $2,000 just to be able to drive an extra 110 miles without refueling.

Extra 12.5 gallons as Tj have 19 gallon tanks and was more than happy as my friends were messing with jerry cans while i was taking in the scenery with a cold beer in hand..and sorry your gas milage is that poor 12 gallons gets me nearly 200 miles.

No change to stock exhaust.
You do have to cut the inside cross frame out then the tank and skid plate bolt to rear cross frame(bumper) and where stock tank bolted. Took about 2 hours total, stock fuel pump and evap hoses all fit etc...very easy and clean install and 500 mile range lets me get way out there and back.
