05 TJ OPDA Questions

You are so over worried on the OPDA. I have the '05 manual trans now at 237,000 miles and mine does not have any OPDA issue whatsoever. Besides, it is very easy to swap another one (1 hour max) $86 from Amazon. Why worry about it?

I tend to over complicate things and read until I concern myself about a simple job... lol

I actually already have the crown part, install looked easy then I started reading some horror stories about people supposeably following the YouTube video(s) but timing is not perfect and their Jeep is in limp mode with CELs

but again there’s not too many posts on it, likely a lot less vs the number of people that replaced it and everything went fine

This is what I suggest.
Take inventory of all the tools you need for the OPDA swap.
Bring the new kit and the tools always with you ready when you need it.
I helped my "paranoid" buddy swap his for less than 30 minutes.

I bought my 2005 a year ago. I had a CPS code, so I changed the OPDA on it. Very easy job to do, was more of a preventative thing to do. I really like the 6 speed and haven't had any issues, I had to put a clutch in it but that's normal anyway. I think I'm having a PCM issue, but it's just an O2 sensor heater circuit code right now so I'm ignoring it. May affect the gas mileage a little, but a lifted Jeep on 33's who cares about gas anyway lol.
