+/-100,000 miles. And not driven hard, and rarely off road.
Started having issues with slipping, and finally figured out torque convertor needed replacing. Was also making some other noise that I thought may have been transfer case chain. Replaced it while i had the tranny out. Not the culprit. Already changed all the U-joints except cardan, but removed front shaft and drove it and still noise. Opened up rear differential and all good there and rear wheel bearings OK.
Only happens at "slack" (coast or very light accell/decell) Attached video show some axial play I found in the extension shaft when I replaced torque convertor. Didn't know and can't find a specification of what is acceptable, but seemed excessive to me. Researched and decided to pull it apart again and replace the circlip that holds it on to the tranny output shaft. Old one was not "bad". Very little sign of wear, and virtually no discernable difference when overlaid with the new one. But did not make any difference in the axial play.
Transmission output shaft looks fine. No burs or signs of wear/chipping, etc. Bearing at output shaft not worn. Still tight. As best I could tell when I had the transfer case off, input bearing (as well as the rest of the stuff in the transfer case) still seems to be OK.
Has a little side play as well as axial, but side play isn't near as much as the axial play.
Have searched the web and haven't really found much on this particular subject, so hoping someone has had a similar experience.
About to just look for a salvage replacement, but any feedback on it would be appreciated.
