New here to the Jeep community. Keep getting message from solus scanner I can access all other protocols like trans, airbag, cluster etc but scanner will not detect engine protocol and keeps saying no communication. I have tested Obd2 connector pinouts and also pcm for 5v reference and get 4.89v checked all sensors disconnecting them one by one according to a couple forums and still get no communication. I can pull engine codes via instrument cluster on the dash. I’m lost at this point to what the issue can be any help would be greatly appreciated. Was also getting a trans temp activated code as well. Temp was reading in the thousand degrees. I also pulled pcm and tried a spacer trick with the pcm and the trans computer portion of the pcm and seemed to due to trick trying to trace if I have a bad pcm. But normal driving temp on trans in city is 215-224 degrees Fahrenheit.

My brother bought the vehicle about a month ago and it has the transmission code already but no engine light or anything. Then once he started driving it we’ve been using the scanner to check temps while driving and temp stays around 200-215 and on freeway 224. And the single board engine controller I found out about as well before but after we got the truck home and I started digging deeper into the jeep forums and trying to diag what it can all be but as far as I no it’s the original computer it still has the dealer stickers and stuff on there. There is also a software update on there as well according to the stickers on it
Well since it's new to you I'd definitely do a fluid change on everything including the transmission.
If you're intending on keeping this Jeep the 42RE needs an additional cooler, temp gauge and a deeper pan with a drain plug and temp sensor bung braised in. Details on this in the resources and how to sections.
I'd get on the phone with the @Wranglerfix team and at least send them the PCM for testing.

Honestly no plans to mod anything just keep it stock. It already had fluids changed when we first got it and well I have cleaned all grounds and power grounds inside engine bay and under driver dash. I do plan on getting a trans temp gauge. I was also searching on here last night and found the sticky service Manuel on here so that’s a big help and plus for me. And yea it wouldn’t hurt to send the pcm out just to be safe. Thanks again for your input o and it does have a Hayden trans cooler already
If it's an OEM 06 PCM, it's going to fail. Wranglerfix has rehosted it to a more reliable PCM.
You need to check and see if the OEM LDI OPDA is still in it. The upper bushing is sealed from the engine oil and will eventually dry out causing gear wear and worst case can seize.

Hey guy just wanted to update I was able to get into the engine controller on my solus ultra scanner by using the obd direct portion of the scanner and not scanning the jeep by vin. It detected both ecus engine and trans. I also verified this with a buddy’s solus scanner and had the same issue with no communication. And the power wire to the one port connector had a fault terminal so it was not making a solid connection.
