Does anyone have any experience with automotive (12v) time-delay relays? Have any in particular that you recommend?

I'd like the time-delay control to be simple—a knob or a button, instead of being dependent upon the voltage of a wire, etc. I need the delay to be relatively short, likely less than one second.

I'm finding plenty online, but don't recognize the brands to know the quality.

I looked into it when I was wiring up a new switch panel and knew I needed one for the rear window defrost. I coudn't find anything that was anyhwere near what I considered affordable, so I ended up using the one that's already in the gauge cluster.

This is programmable. I use it in another vehicle to "push" a momentary button to turn off auto-stop. It activates 30 seconds after ignition power (for me) it can be momentary or latched.

Thanks. That looks similar to this one, which I was eyeing.

Edit: "This one" is hyperlinked above. Can everyone not see hyperlinks since the recent site updates?

Hey @Chris can we get underlined or colored links on the forum? It seems that everyone is having trouble recognizing them. Shouldn't have to mouse over every word in a post to see if there are any links.

I wonder if @Steel City 06 has any particular brands to recommend.

Mouser.com is a good source for a lot of niche electrical parts. I recommend using the online catalog vs the search. They stock so much stuff that finding something can be a task in itself, but the sort and filter tool is really good.

Waytekwire.com carries a good number of switches; some might be delay or momentary.

Jameco.com is another source worth looking at.

As for brands of otherwise, I couldn't make any. The vast majority of switches are made in China in bulk under many labels. I'd personally avoid the Amazon/AliExpress ones and go for ones from a reliable distributor, as the distributors tend to have better QC.
