So my 97 2.5 has oil leaks. I am replacing the valve cover and oil pan gaskets but the rear main seal is also leaking., Seeing it is a 1 piece seal I do not have time to pull the trans til spring to replace that seal. Has anyone used oil leak seal additives with any luck? I just want to get through the winter. If so what brands seem to work the best? Thank you

Is the 2.5 a 1-piece rear main? I know our 4.0s are 2-piece.
I've never had good luck with any of those "stop leak" oil products in the past. They might work on a small leak, but if it's a significant leak, don't expect any results.

If you are using synthetic oil i would swap to conventional oil.
Synthetic will leak like a sieve. As far as stop leaks i would not use them. I don't trust them.
Ok I will bot try the stop leak. Thank you. Is it safe to try a little thicker oil and if so what grade should I try? I am using conventional oil and yje 2.5 gas 152K on it.
@woody367 no do not use additives and only use 10w30 weight oil.
I know u don't want to hear this but u need to d/l a copy of your service manual and install a new rear main seal.
You will have to drop the oil pan and do some mechanicing. Shortcuts don't work. You will need to replace it asap as we know those leaks only get worse.
I use 10w30 Valvoline high mileage in my 2.5L with 169k.
