My 2001 TJ has been having overheating problems since I bought it last year. The thermostat has been replaced and the cylinder head has been remachined as it was slightly warped. Now the problem is back again. The mechanic thought he nailed it down now to an incorrect waterpump as it appeared to be hooked up backwards (the flow through the waterpump was reversed. As it turned ouit, this is the right water pump for this 2001 TJ, but the pulley that drives it is operating it in reverse. Seems like this TJ has had an engine swap in a distant past, something which was not disclosed to me when I purchased it.
Does anybody know which model year of TJ engine requires a different type of water pump? The current water pump for the 2001 TJ is not correct, so now we need to determine which model year engine is in the Jeep so that we can order the correct water pump. Not sure if this all make sense, but let me know if anybody has any suggestions.
