2002 TJ audio sounds horrendous

I am having some problems with my 2002 Jeep audio. The speakers sound horrible and there is absolutely no bass. I was hoping someone could diagnose the problem for me.

The fact Chrysler used paper and foam speaker cones on the vehicles is beyond my understanding. They should have used marine grade speaker. Especially considering how wet the inside of many of our well loved Jeeps get.

I replaced mine with the cheapie Pyramid WX65 - plenty for the factory amp in case you are using it - works great

Hmm. That reminds me of one more thing to add to my list of things. I don't even know if that old amp still works.

i put a multimeter on the pigtail for it and it showed I think 2 volts or maybe 4 before I put the new sub in, and didn't think that was enough, but it was

Was the meter set to measure AC or DC voltage? Audio signals are AC voltage.

I think with some 2ga. speaker wire you should be good as new lol

Make sure to get CCA twisted pair don’t skimp out

You just need a good amp.

OEM base audio systems are garbage. They use the cheapest speakers they can have made in bulk. Even 'premium' audio is often barely better.

Some use Bose audio. Though if you look into bose, they don't even make car audio speakers, only home audio.
