Been fighting a squeeling belt sound on my 2002 TJ 4.0
I thought at first it was the idler pulley or tension pulley
so I changed both of those and I also put a new gates belt on at the same time

The issue only happens when the temps are cold outside and on a cold start
when the motor warms up it goes away

any other suggestions on what it could be ?

Try locating by listening using something like this or a long screwdriver.

Just be very careful taking your samples when the engine is running!

While not an 05-06, the OPDA could still fail after a lot of miles on an 02. If you "listen" to the head of the OPDA when the sound is occurring, you can rule it in or out.

The squeak comes from the Right side of the tensioner.
The entire assembly pivots on a bolt, and when the back and forth movement ultimately wears the black part, pulley or idler wheel, is no longer 90 degrees to the belt, makes the belt offset as it leaves one and enters the next pulley.
Clean and pack the bearings and they will be happy.

If it's not the tensioner it could be an intake manifold leak. I have the same squeal when cold. Goes away after reaching operating temp. I replaced my tensioner, idler, and belt as well. take a ratchet and a 15mm deep socket and tighten the very last intake manifold nut that is closest to the firewall. Check the others too to make sure they are tight. My squeal will go away if I tighten that last nut, but comes back, so I'm pretty sure the gasket is toast. Just a thought.
