I have a 2005 4.0 6 cylinder Jeep Wrangler X with auto trans. The problem I am having is that it won't start even with the jumper cables. It just makes a clicking sound. All of the lights are working when I turn them on. The problem started when I tried to start it after it being parked for a week and half while on vacation. I tried putting my charger on it with the quick start funtion but was unsuccessful. I finally jumped it off with my truck & jumper cables and it started right up. I checked it with my meter to make sure it was getting the 14v from the altinator and it was. My daugher drives the jeep and she left in it after I told her not to turn it off until she got to her destination. When she got to where she was going she turned it off and when she tried to start it back up it was doing the same thing with the clicking but now start. I drove down to her with my truck and cables and tried juming it off but it still would just do the clicking with no start. I decided to change out the started but that didn't help (it's doing the same thing with the new starter). I'm out of pocket almot $200 now and I don't know what else to check on this. Also the jeep has an old soft top that apparently leaks because there was water inside the Jeep from all the rain that came with hurricane Helene. Not sure if maybe this had something do do with it. Any help here will be greatly appreciated.

Have you confirmed the battery is good and the connections are clean and good also? These symptoms sound like a bad battery or connection to me.

The battery is only a year old and the connections seem ok but I will double check. I was thinking this may be the next thing to check anyway. I'll try it and report back. Thanks

Check the ground wires to the engine block. If it is soiled or dirty, clean up the block and the wire connector. That solved my clicking issue. In fact check the wiring from battery terminals to the starter to see if there is corrosion or bare wire is exposed. As mentioned above, the battery should be tested to rule it in or out as the issue.

I took the battery back to to have it checked and it was bad. That gave me a new one free on warranty and that fixed the problem. I’m all good now. Thanks for all of the replies guys 👊🏼
