2005 parking brake question

May be a dumb question but I want to make sure I don’t go down a rabbit hole.

Changed out my e brake adjuster on my 2005 rubicon 6-speed. Got the new one tightened and the handle is noticeably better but e brake still doesn’t hold.

Experience tells me this means new e brake shoes. Am I missing something before I go buy parts?

The only thing I would check would be the routing and connection of the cable.
Maybe pull a drum off and see if the e-brake shoes are moving when the cable is pulled.

I think that’s gonna be the plan when the fractured elbow heals. Have a crown opda to put on and a few other things. Just didn’t want to throw money and parts without a plan. Hadn’t thought about checking cables elsewhere though. Thanks!!

Have you tried adjusting the parking brakes with the star adjusters at each rear wheel?

I have not. Honestly didn't think about that. I remember that being the adjustment on my old jeep with drum rears. Same adjustment on disc rears I assume? Will check that this evening.

Exactly the same as conventional rear drum brakes. The typical parking brake adjustment with rear discs is to first properly adjust the parking brake shoes with the star adjusters, then adjust the cable tensioner if necessary

Before trying to adjust, check the condition of the shoes. The linings sometimes fall off the shoe

When I first got my jeep my e-brakes wouldn't hold much. I just ignored it, but after many years they got better and now they work great. I don't know how that happened.
