My 2006 Jeep wrangler would not turn over. I tried to bypass the clutch safety switch and still would not do anything. I pulled the starting solenoid and found that I did have +voltage on 86 but no negative on 87 I put a ground wire onto that and it will turn over but will not start up. any help would be appreciated!

Yes tested Battery. when cranking drops to about 10.8 but almost 13 when not cranking. I bypassed the clutch safety switch hard bypass and still would not turn over. after that I found that the ground on solenoid was not present. I placed a wire from battery ground to terminal 86 or 87 cant remember but was able to turn it over with the key after that but it would not start.

This may seem obvious, but one of the most common things to go wrong (and most overlooked) is bad battery terminal connections. I would try cleaning yours and or replacing them if they look very worn. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a thread where someone couldn't start their Jeep, and it turned out to be the battery terminal connections!

thanks chris, I have done the whole battery test, cleaning and power checks. where I am at is it will turn over with the ground jumpered on the 86 pin of the starting solenoid but the motor will not run. just wondering if their is something else tied to this that others have seen? I don't get ground to 86 pin unless I jumper it. even with the clutch safety circuit bypassed (direct jumper on the terminal). any and all thoughts are appreciated.

I have been searching for wiring diagrams found some but if anyone has anything on how the ground is sent to the starting solenoid that would be great. from what I see it all goes through the PCM but just wondering if there is away around that.

Okay, I was just trying to eliminate the easy and most obvious stuff. I suppose it's possible you could have a PCM problem. Do you happen to be getting any check engine codes from the vehicle at all? I only ask because that might point in one direction or the other.

No codes at all.

I’ve heard of similar issues happening before, and it turned out to be the ignitikn actuator pin, which is apparently a common point of failure.

There was just a big thread by manxi a guy on an island about this exact issue look at that thread. He did a YouTube video too

Ok update. I have tested the Clutch safety switch and it is working, tested all signals from the ignition switch (key switch) and that is all working. I can put a ground on pin 86 of the starting relay and the engine will turn over from the key switch but will not run. going through the wiring diagram everything is leading me to the PCU. has anyone ever had one rebuilt? or do you recommend new? or has anyone tried rebuilding themselves? want to tear into that thing but looks like everybody wants a core. any recommendations are appreciated. thanks

also another symptom is it was running fine driving down the street and gauges went crazy and it died. Had my friend tow me home. Next day went to see what was going on (thought it was battery or alternator at the time) and it started right up ran fine for a few days and parked it and it has not started since. the OBD will not connect to the PCU to read codes.

Get another battery or put a jump box on it- for me wild gauges has always been battery or dirty terminals. Maybe a bad wire

The shop said my was a engine computer! NO after $600.00! It was the ING actuator pin it the ING switch. Did it my self for $50.00 (need the torx sect bits, with the hole in the center) Hope this helps you out!
