2006 LJ (auto with 38k miles)

I met two older guys in the parking lot the other day as they were checking out my rig.

Jim mentioned that he has an LJ in the same color as my rig that he's considering selling. I told him I'd be happy to let folks on the forum know it's up for sale in case anyone is interested.

FYI, dealers have been hounding him since he entered his info into KBB's website...he knows it's worth more than the $17k they've been offering. His minimum target is above that number.

I'm gauging interest for him by listing it for $24k (the price is negotiable). I know his minimum, but it's not fair for me to share it publicly since it's not my rig and his opinion could change. If folks are seriously interested, I'll ask him to put up a Craigslist ad or make it so folks can contact him to discuss details and pricing.

He said he's never sold a vehicle on Craigslist (the guy is old school), but he knows better than to sell it to a dealer.

I aint no fan of encasing myself inside my Jeep. In March did the Jeep Jamboree, all the JK/JL crowd were all entombed inside their hardtops.

I had not thought about it that way. Sell the top. Put the funds towards upgrades.

I looked at it for an older friend who lives out of state. The rig has some scratches in the hood and some paint missing near the hood/window area on the passenger side. FWIW, mine is missing the paint in the same spot.

The differential covers, oil pan, and transmission pan have a wet film look which indicates at least a small leak. I didn't see leaking drops of liquid, but you can tell they have been wet from fluid.

The seller believes the leaks are due to the vehicle sitting and doesn't think they will leak when driving. I don't agree with that opinion and recommend the gaskets be changed. It's not hard to do, but it's something that needs to be done.

I drove it for about 10 minutes in town. The engine and transmission seemed to run well.

IIRC, I felt feedback in the steering, which might be fixed by tightening up the steering gear. I believe there was a dropped pitman arm on the steering box, so you'd want to replace it with an OEM pitman arm.

I don't think he's going to take less than what the dealer offered ($17k), but I wouldn't offer anywhere near the $24k and that's an understatement.

LMK if you are still interested. The guy definitely loves the rig and says he's in no rush to tell it, but he's getting old so he doesn't use it. I think it could be a fantastic rig, it just needs some TLC.
