So I got my first Jeep last month. 231000 miles and it was sitting in neighbors field having not been run in 13 months so I asked to buy it. Other than regular oil changes maintenance has been sparce. The electrodes on spark plugs were so warn spark could not jump gap. Oil in transmission had never been changed and it would not shift.
Now that the engine is running very well and the Valvoline sincro mesh synthetic has it shifting smoothly i want to replace timing chain and gears.
Changed oil and aftrr 2500 miles and no visible loss.
What other parts should i change? Water pump, ???

Thank you,

Steve

I posted a while back about my sparkplugs that I pulled out of my 200K LJR....they had a huge gap and it ran great!

Possible to do list:
Antifreeze and brake fluid seem to be most overlooked maintenance items.
Change all fluids.
Inspect all the rubber hoses and bits.
Replace the fan belt if its checked.
Are the brake rotors rusty? Possible brake job.
Sitting in a field? check underside throughly for rodent damage to wiring etc.
(I had a trailer that got the wiring chewed up by squirrels when I left it out in the tall grass)

I ended up with all new O2 sensors but I still have one vexing me!

For the ease and relatively low cost, I’d swap all the suspension bushings.

For ages, I was dealing with random rattles, clangs, etc. swapped in new poly bushings and have all but eliminated the noises.
