31x10.5 vs 30x9.5 tires

Planning a set of H&R springs and a suspension refresh in the next couple a three months. Then it'll be time for new tires. I've been planning on 31-10.5s, but am wondering if I'd be better off with 30-9.5s instead. "Trail Jeep" that will see mild mud from time to time. 4.0, 6 speed, 3.73 gearing, Ecco wheels.

Or is the difference so minuscule that it doesn't really matter either way? I kinda like the idea of narrower tires...
31x10.50 Mud terrains is my vote.

I am not a fan of wheeling in Florida for the simple fact of never knowing how deep the "mild mud" puddle will be.
If your tires cant reach the bottom, locked or unlocked, all terrain or mud terrain, narrow or wide, you are not getting out of that shithole.
At the same time, i have completed all of the tail runs on 31.5x10.4 all terrains, without use of lockers.

Completely through or completely stuck, my two polar opposite experiences on N.FL trails.
Wider or narrower, at or mt, would have made little to no difference.

Here is the fun one, before calling it a day, decided to wash wheels off in ordinary puddle that was no different than any other ancle deep puddle around it...

Save the Snorkels!

There isn't a huge difference in size , in mild mud I wound run 10.5 .
That being said I love running narrower tires, but I drive in Snow.
Probably not much snow on the Hall Road :ROFLMAO:
Go with what you want and can get a good deal on, with suspension upgrades maybe the 10.5 give you more choices !

The main thing is to have FUN with your TJ !
I always like to equip my vehicle with big tires when driving in snow. That being said, I must admit that in order to have a good time, a narrower couple will definitely get the job done!

Big tires work well in deep snow off road, of course if you have to commute on snow packed roads with inclines
and curves you will QUICKLY gain appreciation for narrower tires.

luckily, I don’t think @Zorba is worried about snow... lol.

the wider tires would be good for the other terrain you see in Florida... sand.

I put 31x10.5 Cooper Evolution MT's on mine for same kind of trail use in Alabama. This is with 2 inch lift.

I had my heart set on M/T Classic 111,s but at $350 a piece in Australia I am liking the pro comp 69 look :)
I originally wanted the MT Classic III as well. However, when I bought mine the price difference was $80 a wheel here in the US. Plus, the 69 has a 3.75" BS, vs the 3.5" on the MT. It's only 1/4", but the hub kit I installed already pushes the wheels out around 3/4" up front.

I do have a set of Rubicon flares, which will cover the tire another inch, but here's what it looks like now with a 3.75" BS, 8" wheel, and 31x10.50R15 tire.

Yeah that's what I have learned about Florida where I'm moving in about a year... going kicking and screaming. I'll look forward to doing my wheeling out of the state, perhaps Georgia.
Pre-emptively welcome to Florida, Jerry.
Ocala houses Hard Rock, an ORV park that has some good reviews. Not sure where your feet will land in the state.

Somewhere close to Jacksonville where my son & his family lives. By the time I get there I may decide my TJ has become just my neighborhood or back roads cruiser for nice days. I am almost getting darned close to getting too old for serious wheeling lol.

You will not be too far from the Ocala area then. Or Alabama/Tennessee for that matter...

Jax/Nocatee/St. Johns county is a great area. One of the best in Florida for controlled infrastructure with the growth. And if you decide to move north of the river (the St. Johns), it's like a completely different area from Jacksonville proper when you head towards Fernandina and stuff. As said, you're not far from TN, but TBH you can hit the parks in SC and NC in only a few hours from there. For clarity, Savannah is only 90-ish miles from Jax. Buzz up 95 and up 26, Uwharrie is probably 4-6hrs from jax, tops.
