32RH automatic transmission stalling

I recently have noticed that my 2001 TJ Automatic 4.0 Sahara has issues when coming to a stop.
The engine runs okay when if transmission is in Park/Neutral. While I haven't had the issue in reverse, I haven't could have just not noticed it.

THE ISSUE!
In drive when I come to a stop, the engine drops from the usual idle of 500-700 RPM to 250 -300 RPM and runs very rough.
This happens when coming to stop as well as when at 0 MPH in drive, breaks engaged.
Issue goes away when the transmission is moved from D to P/N
The only things that I have done to the TJ is replace the Transfer Case (with the exact same NP 231 and gear ratio).

Please throw some solutions! I really am out of ideas at this point

Both of my tjs are manual. But from otger autos I have owned, I would start w the following:

Whats your idle at in p/n? If also lower than normal, it could be a dirty idle air control. Clean the tb and iac / change air filter etc...

If in p/n, your idle is normal, maybe consider that your AT torque converter is slowing the engine. May want to look into that.

Just throwing out some ideas. I may be way off base but hopefully gives you a starting point

What should be a normal idle for a 6 cyl 4.0?

my 2000 6 cyl 4.0 automatic idles around 700 rpm. don't take this as factory spec - just a ballpark.
