Actually, that "impressive" 15.0 mpg is probably as much related to "ran 70 all the way" as to the tire/gear combo.

eh, maybe. My tanks come out anywhere between 11 and 13 mpg, with no apparent relationship to driving around town, 65mph rural highways or 75mph interstate.

A few years ago I drove a 4000 mile round trip to Ohio and back. Everything worked, but my milage SUCKED. I get 14 in the city, so I was HOPING for at least 15 or 16 on the highway. Nope. It didn't matter whether I drove 65, 70, or 75, 4th or 5th gear. I got 11 or 12.

I took this picture around 9am after driving 6hrs and 350mi. 35’s, 4.88’s fueling up around 230mi. Think I got 14-15mpg running 65-70mph most of the way, not using the AC. It had 190k at the time. I’ve made this trip 7-8 times in this configuration without hesitation. But I carry enough tools to fix most any issue that I can think of. I’ll be making the same trip in about a month and I’ll be around 900mi round trip.
