97 Wrangler 2.5 oil pressure problem

Oil pressure droops when idle
When you give it gas it goes back up now my check engine light is on. I recently had the motor redone the timing chain guide broke and busted a piston replaced everything & new mains & oip pump is this something major what should I do next?

Hook up a mechanical oil pressure guage and get accurate readings at various RPM's. Oil pressure will usually be lower at idle, but knowing the actual PSI will help a lot.
Cycle your ignition key off and on three times in rapid succession. Any codes should pop up on the odometer. Record them and get back to us.

I will look for someone that can check the pressure, i just went out & done the key thing & nothing comes up. Thany you.

Hmm. I thought the key trick worked on your year, maybe not. You could go to O'Reilly or some other parts store and have them do a scan for you to see what the CEL is all about. It's a free service.

Thank you so much I will definitely go see if the will check it for me, it my work, I may just not be doing it correctly, it has a button lock you have to press to turn the key completely off & it's a little stiff from setting, it was down a year & 4 months before I could find someone I trusted to figure out the motor issue.

No problem. Like I said, oil pressure fluctuation is normal. If you're not hearing any unusual sounds, your probably ok. The CEL should definitely be investigated. But even those are sometimes nothing, and clear themselves after a few starts.
