Hey everyone, quick question to see if ya'll had the same issue in the past or if anyone has any insight. I have a '98 Wrangler Sport 5 Speed. My AC unit wont turn off. I know you can hear the unit from the cab click on (if you know what I mean) when the selector switch is one the AC modes. (The selections with the snow flake) But for the past few days, when I'm off the selection of AC and on just air straight towards you or towards the floor board, the AC unit is still clicking on and the heat isn't as powerful, of course because the unit is on. I have slider switches which i guess they quit putting in in 99 I believe, but the temperature slide selector works and the air mode slide selector work in all positions. Any ideas or anyone that can diagnose? Thanks jeep fam.

The click you are hearing is the clutch on the AC compressor engaging/disengaging in the engine compartment. This should happen in the AC position/ recirc postion as well as defrost. I don't know the wiring of a 98, but there typically is a AC compressor clutch relay in the circuit (check power distribution block). Possible the relay contacts are arc'd/stuck closed. If you can find a wiring diagram you can outputs of the temperature switch itself to see if its providing voltage to the in the incorrect positions. A real long shot interweb diagnosis- did you swap out your PCM recently?

Yes I did replace my PCM!

I knew the click was the clutch of the AC unit...I will check the AC circuit relay right now, I appreciate the input!

Where did you get your PCM from? The reason i asked about the PCM is there is a known issue with certain replacement PCMs and this exact problem. First check the relay and/or swap it with another in the block to see if it resolves as its cheap and free.

I just swapped the relay and the same thing occurred. I guess it was the PCM which I figured was the issue in the first place. I bought it from Flag Ship 1 Auto Module Specialists. The reason why I replaced it in the first place was the Voltage regulator was going out, causing my jeep not to recharge the battery while driving. That issue was fixed with the replacement, but now I guess the AC is a new issue. I'm not sure what to tell these people as I messaged them twice about the AC unit acting up after the replacement and they said it shouldn't be a problem because the programming on the PCM is identical.

Look into the climate control temperature switch before hitting the panic button, but unfortunately it sounds like you made need to exercise their lifetime warranty. Pull the relay if your going to drive it. Otherwise you'll be replacing the compressor and accumulator shortly as well!
