A really stupid idea...

This is one of those 2 am ideas, so bare with me here.

Anybody hear of anyone using a wet shot of nitrous oxide in a jeep engine? Sure, you'd only get 15 - 20 seconds of extra power out of it, but what a hoot! Inject a little nitrous, a little alcohol, and let'r rip.

Set it up so it wouldn't fire off unless you were at 100% throttle and at, say, 2800 RPM. Flip the switch and mash the throttle...then boom - 20 seconds of stupidity.

Nah, that idea needs to go back in the box with the rest of the hairbrained ideas.

Back in my younger days I had nitrous on my VW. It was pointless. It was a tiny bit faster for like 10-15 seconds.

But for the 4 banger guys, this might be a viable option... Oh wait... All the extra weight from the NOS tanks and equipment might cancel that out.

Plus, I've seen a couple of pretty spectacular NOX system failures...zero to trash in under ten seconds type of stuff. Definitely the wrong technology in the wrong application. I gotta stop posting after I get off work. lol

Yes, we blew up the engine on my GTI with a NOS shot that lasted a bit longer than it should have... Haha!

This was at the age of 17, so we were just stupid kids back then. But, we had lots of fun!

'72 Camaro, 350 with ALL the goodies and a perfect black paint job. Randy had been working on this car for years and was showing it off at a party one night. He went to leave, twisted the key and Boom! Scrap metal. The filter failed on the nitrous side, the valve got stuck open just a hair and slow leaked into the manifold and the rest of the engine.

In reality, NoS like most things is great done right, great carnage done wrong. I wouldn't hesitate to put a 30-40 shot on a Jeep 4.0. Cheap horsepower and easy to do.

As to your previous comment about when it squirts, Nitrous Express sets theirs up with a momentary switch on the throttle butterfly so the only time the wet shot enters the intake is when the throttle butterfly is fully open. Their nozzles are well designed so that the fuel stream hits the little oval in the end of the nozzle at about 50 psi and then the 800 psi nitrous stream runs into it for maximum mixing of the two which is then carried into the intake as a fully atomized mixture. The nozzles have removable jets so you can tune the amount of fuel versus nitrous and get the mix correct for the application.

Don't be skeered by all the bad press the stuff gets, set up right, it's surprisingly effective and no more harmful than running a blower or turbo.

Mr. Blaine is correct, setup correctly nitrous is a good thing... we spray 800 hp in 3 stages in the dragster and it doesn’t hurt a thing ... but it has to be setup correctly, fuel pressure and ignition timing have to be perfect at that level. As far as street , a100 -200 shot wouldn’t bother me a bit . For short bursts...

Lasted a good 40-50 times, until we tried holding on for a good 20 seconds. BOOM! Connecting rods everywhere! Oh to be young and invincible again!
