Aftermarket Differential Covers

So, not knowing what the inside of my Dana 44 looked like or the condition of the lubricant I purchased a diff cover from amazon that looks identical to an ARB but has 4x4 embossed where the ARB lettering is.

Question: does this type of cover require more or less lubricant than the stock stamped sheet metal cover?

I removed my stock cover as todays project and the lubricant was pretty much all there based on what drained out. Didn't smell funny or burnt and looked like used oil. Installed the new diff cover and am now waiting the required time for the sealant to cure before re-filling the diff, basically sometime tomorrow. And yes, I do have 4 oz. of Mopar friction modifier to add.

It takes the same amount of fluid as the stock differential cover.

Where can I find the ramped Dana 30 front cover from the company other than Currie for sale and will it interfere with Xj steering upgrade

the currie diff cover looks very similar to the ARB one. Does this mean that the ARB cover is also a very good option? Im also wondering about the barnes 4wd diff covers. Anyone know anything about these covers? if I should stay away why?

If you're talking about the ones that look like an ARB, but say 4X4 instead, I'd stay away too. I'm pretty sure they're Chinese knockoffs, and the pictures I've seen look like the castings may be porous. Or maybe there's more than one that says 4X4? Maybe somebody else can clarify this further...

nope im talking about the currie and the ARB covers that i linked below. Maybe I shouldn't say exactly the same but they look similar.

The Currie and ARB do look very similar. What none of them show that would be nice is height which would probably be most useful comparison.

I‘m currently leaning more toward Yukon. Slightly different design and doesn’t have dipstick but as can find it for closer to $130 I think can live without the dipstick I currently don’t have anyway.

Is there a difference between stock Dana 44 replacement covers that are for Dana 44's with factory locker vs those without? I have a sport Dana 44 with no locker and need a replacement for the stock Dana 44 cover.

I like this Currie cover on my TJ:

I don't know of any differences that would make a cover not fit. The locker still fits in the same envelope as a standard differential as far as cover clearance is concerned. The air hose is ran through the top of the housing, so it won't affect the cover.

The only things I can think of that might require special covers are the Ox locker (requires a special cover if I recall correctly) and the Jana K4 (installs a JK ring gear in a TJ Dana 44, reducing clearances).

My Spicer nodular covers fit both front and rear factory lockers, though I did have to grind a bit to clear the trackbar and the tie rod.

That pretty much answers my question. I've read on here before about how different diff covers can have have little differences. I'm just trying to find the cheapest stock or aftermarket stock replacement possible and the one I found mentions being for Dana 44 diffs with factory lockers

I went with poison spyder bombshell covers, I like to play in the rocks, they are thicker and I have no complaints whatsoever. It performs exactly how I think it would, if you want to keep your stock cover you can always go with a rockhard4x4 cover, it is basically a bolt on "shell" for the bottom half where you would most likely be hitting, heres a pic
