Air Filter Box Destroyed

So a couple of days ago I was installing new Brown Dog motor mounts and had my air filter box out sitting in my driveway. My brother pulls in and runs it over which destroyed it. Its in several pieces. I have been to the junkyard and have not had any luck locating a used replacement at a reasonable price. I understand that cold air intakes offer no real advantage unless coupled with other modifications, but my question is there any disadvantage to running a CAI? I ask, because I can order one for fairly cheap compared to a new factory box and hose.

Don't run a CAI for several reasons. First, they don't improve performance for the TJ. Second, the washable oiled air filters they tend to use pass large amounts of dirt and dust like there's no tomorrow.

Try https://daveysjeeps.com/ for a used air intake, followed by eBay. My second TJ came with a CAI system which I promptly sold and replaced it with the factory air intake box. Nope, no loss of performance afterward lol.

If they have a 00s Ford windstar (or any late 90s/early 00s Ford style Van/Truck) you can take its intake and adapt it to fit your TJ. It is a "true" CAI but dont expect any performance out of it. You can also use a traditional style paper filter with it.

I got my OEM air box from ebay... this guy wants a bit much, but they can be found cheaper...

If you absolutely have to have a cold air intake, at least use a dry filter on it instead of the oiled ones.

And send your brother the bill.

X2 for Daveys Jeep, or Dead Jeep, or your local Craigslist and snag one from someone foolish enough to put a CAI on their Jeep.

Ask a guy (me) who is forced to run a cold air intake due to my GenRight fenders how much it sucks here in the desert. If you saw how filthy my air filter is after each wheeling trip you’d totally understand why people like the factory air box so much

Sufficiently motivated Jeep owners can do this. Runs a factory paper filter with Genright fenders or an equivalent difficulty level.

Since I don't have hoops to attach those mounting points to, tell me you sell some sort of bracket I can bolt in place

This would be a nice setup for my needs.

No hoop means you just rotate it and mount off the side of the valve cover.

Not if it’s hot air outside

Looks like it’s taking air from the outside via the headlight bucket though. Is the headlight installed or is something else clever going on?

No real disadvantage. Buy a cheap one, and upgrade the filter later.
