For those of you that like chatting up the ChatGPT
I'm a Dodge guy my self, and this is pretty much how I feel about the "dial"...
Tankfully the electronics wont actually let you do this...

Is the one on the right (with the sun screen) for officers or ladies?
I’ve driven cars with the dial and I can’t adjust to it. It annoys me every time.
The only benefit I’m aware of is if you hit the power off button before shifting to park, it shifts to park for you.
Both my nephew and my son in law have trucks with that dial. I've only driven one once - no way to control the transmission! A solution to a non existent problem that nobody asked for.
Sure there's a way. Most vehicles that have that dial either have buttons, or paddles that you can shift up and down through the gears with. When Ram switched to the 5 and 6 speed autos in their trucks they still have the column shift but it's P, R, N, D, and on the shifter there's up and down buttons... the '21 Ram 1500 my folks have, the up/down buttons are on the steering wheel.
When you think about it, push button auto shifting isn't new any way... it dates back to the 60s I think, maybe 50s.
