Anyone know if it’s possible to separate the stock side-view mirrors from the bracket? My mirrors are fine but the brackets are completely ‘rusted’ white and look pretty bad. I have a line on two stock mirrors with brackets that look perfect, but the glass is messed up. Is it possible to take them apart and mount my mirrors on the new brackets? These are the tall mirrors with ‘Jeep’ at the top. It’s a ‘98 Sahara. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. A lot of smart people on here that are more than happy to help.
When I got my TJ a little over a year ago I also had a broken mirror. I ended up buying one from a member here for cheap and I remember I spent a little time trying to separate it from the bracket but didn’t have much luck. I ended cleaning the bracket up while it was still attached to the mirror with a wire wheel and painted it. Turned out okay.

Didn't answer your question, but it will bump it back to the top, no doubt someone will chime in.

The mirrors on my '98 did the same thing. Lift up the boot between the bracket and the mirror and look for a couple of flat spots on either side of the metal rod, then unscrew with a thin wrench. Don't remember the size, sorry.

The big bolt only separates the arm from the flat plate that bolts to the door. There are 3 parts to the whole thing. If you want to remove mirror itself, look where I said. Depends on which part is flaking off I guess. Both the plate and the arm were flaking on mine. I plan to have them powder coated.

All the metal parts are bad (plate and arm) so only the mirror itself is in good shape. I’ll look for the nut to separate the mirror from the bracket. The plastic boots are also getting brittle; has anyone seen replacements for those?
