Hey guys, I'm working on my D-30 on my tj. I am trying to figure out how to do the spin test , but my #1 problem is that after draining my oil from my dif, and looking at the cross pin in the carrier, THERE IS NO CROSS PIN BOLT!! The oil was in perfect shape no flakes of chips of metal the oil looked brand new the ring and pinion look to be in perfect shape and the aussie locker looks perfect. But there is no cross Pin bolt to be found in the housing anywhere.
so will my local NAPA /autozone have one of these small bolts??
thanks

How could the cross pin stay in place without the bolt?
Jerry I have not a clue. But only to think that on a dana 30 the ring gear has to be removed in order to get the cross pin out with 4.10 gears. That along with luck and higher powers i guess .

Look for a roll pin if you can't find a retainer bolt head. IIRC non c-clip axles are more likely to use a roll (lock) pin to hold the cross pin.

ok , this all started because im hearing some louder than normal popping when turning sharp in 2 wheel drive. So I know something is not right . my ball joints seem to be just fine and my ujoints do not have any play in them , so im just looking for problems or issues and dang if I dont find that my cross pin bolt is missing . So that only leads me to believe that i did not install it when I put the locker in over a year ago

Dana 30 uses a roll pin and not a bolt. So if the roll pin was missing you would know as the cross pin would be coming out of the carrier.

I guess I got worried that i didnt see a bolt head and forgot about putting a roll pin in the carrier. sorry folks.

So in figuring out how to do a spin test for the aussie locker for the Dana 30, I was instructed to jack up the front end, put the transfer case in 4x4 then block up one tire so it wont move and spin the opposite tire so the locker will ratchet. Well the passenger side tire worked perfectly but the driver side would not ratchet. So now i have to measure the center space of the locker and make sure its within tolerance . Hope I dont have to tear down the axle, ring and carrier an aussie locker again.
