Having a backfire and further engine stutter in 4th gear around 2500 RPM. This seems to be as the motor is just warming up and will not recover.

Codes thrown: PO171, PO132, PO133.

O2 Sensors are new as well as MAP and TPS.

Mechanic is convinced this is an ECM issue and will be replaced next.

Thoughts?

Welcome fellow 97 jade se owner…. Mine was acting the same way when I got it and NTK o2 sensors solved the problem… make sure they are not store brand, I have tried them and they never work correctly…make sure they are NTK or NGK brand…

Yea I am aware of the upstream o2 sensor issue with non NTK brands. I was able to acquire a flashed Ecu fairly cheep and am in the process of replacing now. Next will be the O2 sensor but there was quite a bit of corrosion on the cover and firewall where located so I am not upset with replacing. As far as parts I generally try and use omix or highly rated and recommended TJ parts. This is not my first Jeep TJ but it is the first time I have dealt with this. My mechanic actually is the one who talked me out of replacing all of the fuel system parts so he is not on a money grab. I trust him.

Upstream o2 sensor replaced with NTK and we are good for now! I am keeping the Ecu just because… :) Thank you for all the input and my goodness, finding that O2 sensor was harder than the Ecu….
