I have had generally good experiences with local part stores and their offerings. I'd say it's worth a shot just to get you running. Orielly's has a masterpro and a Murray pump for not too much.

I have some cheap Baofengs. I think they can receive GMRS, but not transmit

I have (4) cheap handhelds from Amazon. They work great. However, I won't be there so it don't matter.
