Bestop Supertop vs Trektop: Which do you prefer?

I've only had my TJ for a few months. It's a hardtop that was originally a soft top and when Spring comes to the Northeast I'm planning on converting it back for the warm months.

I'll be buying a Bestop and I'll try to talk myself into twill. My question is for folks who have had experience with the factory-style top and the Trektop - which do you prefer?

My old TJ had a factory soft top and I never minded flipping it up and down. It's a five minute affair once you get it down to a science. The thing is, around this area of the country the weather can change on a dime so being able to go from topless to covered in a hurry is not optional. Am I correct in understanding the Trektop windows can't be rolled up and stashed in the back like the factory-style windows can be? Reason I'm asking is I run the Jeep like a two-seater with my dog in the back (she goes everywhere with me) and I'll have to carry my windows with me just in case. I've thought about some type of carrying case or something. I'll also stretch one of those cargo nets over the roll bar to make sure she doesn't fall out. She won't jump out but she's a little clumsy. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not averse to the factory-style but I do like the look and frameless-ness of the Trektop.

I have no experience with the frameless TrekTop NX but I have done extensive research when getting my first softop and the SuperTop NX is certainly the more versatile top by far.

I am pretty sure you can remove all of the windows on the TrekTop but there is no way to roll them up in the rear window like with the SuperTop because it utilizes the loops on the rear bow. The TrekTop not having a rear bow (frame) is obviously not going to have that option.

Bestop does make the window duffle too for storage.

I installed the Trektop when fall rolled in this year instead of the hardtop. The only reason I went with it was because I run a safari top / no doors all summer and my kids ingress/egress over the rear tire so I didn't want a frame. The rear windows of the Trektop aren't designed to be rolled up; I mean I guess you could but you'd have to rig something. Also note that these windows on the TrekTop are TIGHT. removing them is quick, but installing them is not. If you're not in the direct sun on a hot day you have to work them a few inches at a time per side until they're zipped up.. Personally it's not something I would want to be messing with if weather is quickly rolling in.

I personally prefer the frame tops. They are easier to put up and down in my experience.

Whatever you get, get the twill fabric.

I have a trektop, I probably will go with a supertop if it ever needs to be replaced.

I recently bought the Sail Cloth top from Bestop. I really like it and it was only around $660. I could not justify forking out the additional coin for the Twill version.

I grabbed the Supertop NX earlier this year and haven't put the hardtop back on at all. Flipping the sunrider takes about a minute, and putting the whole top down takes just a few more. I recently grabbed the Bestop HOSS window roll to make it even easier to store the windows when I'm out.

I chose the Supertop NX over the Trektop because I wanted both the sunrider and the classic framed soft top look. One of the marketing points I saw about the Trektop was "the more modern look that Wrangler owners have been asking for ...", which is the exact opposite of what I want.

That's some good information. I had no idea the Trektop windows were a PIA to get zipped in. I've had to look for an underpass, or even a tree to get under to flip my top closed. I can't be wasting a lot of time fooling with the windows. I also really want to be able to take out the side windows, roll them up, and bungee them. With the back seat out I can stash them behind the front seats and not crowd my dog. I don't want to take up her space - she's the reason I can't put a subwoofer back there . The duffle, which I did not know about either, sounds like a good garage storage idea but again, if I put it in back it would crowd the pooch.

Yeah I'm leaning way in to the frame top.

I got the frameless Trektop and the windows are a pain to get in. There are a few tricks that help but it still takes 5-10 minutes to put them in on a warm day. I have had to do it once in the rain and it was not fun. That said its the only soft top I have ever had so I cannot compare it to a framed top. As far as window storage I have an alien sunshade above my head that I store my windows on. Granted I never use the sunrider flip back option I always have it as a safari top. I flip back the sunrider, put the windows on the alien sun shade and the close the sunrider. Works great and the windows never have to get rolled. I like the look a lot better than the framed tops personally and the cheaper of the two fabrics (sail cloth I think) has been great, I run it while off road and have dragged it through trees and it looks just fine.

I got pretty good at sliding the side and rear windows on the trektop nx, I love the easily convertible bakini top. The trick is learning the best way to get both rear window zippers started. My dog likes it too. Got the cargo net from Jeepcargonet.com

I bought the Bestop Supertop NX in the black diamond. I have to say I love it. I have put the top completely down once and it wasn't to bad to do. I find I much prefer to just put the sunrider back and take all the windows out. I have half doors so I just take the uppers off for most of the summer.

I like the versatility of it. When weather is in between warm and cold, I would sometimes take the side back windows out (leave them at home) and and just roll the back window up. The back window is the hardest one for me to get back in, but it still isn't that bad. Would help to have a third hand. LOL So I typically either take it completely out for summer and then for mid weather temps I leave it in and just roll it up. One can also fold the sunrider back half way too. So it is still open a little but still over your head too. So you really get two sunroofs in one. LOL

I love my TrekTop. To me the windows aren't at all hard to put in. The trick is loosening the straps that go to the tub and pick the whole top up off the frame slightly. I wish I would have gotten the twill top but I'll never go back to a traditional frame style top.

I had a TrekTop. I thought I wanted it but ended up not liking the look. Maybe because I hadn’t changed anything else out yet. All stock, no lift, tires, etc. It flapped a lot too right over my head. Sold it after 3 days And got the SuperTop NX. I should have listened to my wife. LOL

I liked the idea of the TrekTop as a safari top. But I still run my LJ with the top fully up but all the windows out and sometimes the doors off. It’s just a bigger safari top. I’ve had it 2-1/2 years and have been happy with it.

Dude that is a great idea. I've been trying to think of a good way to store them on-board in the spring/fall when the weather turns here. I'm doing that.

Thanks! Works great, I put old towels between them for extra protection, plus if you get caught in the rain its nice to have a few towels.

When I bought this TJ it had the Trek NX and I wasn't sure I liked it but after running with it this past summer I am very pleased. Like the open air feeling with protection from the sun. Found I liked it better with the folding top latched for sun protection. I bought a storage bag for the windows. I thought it would be too cold for the winter but have no problems keeping warm. Would buy again.

The Supertop or a framed top is so much faster to put up or take down.
