Body mount bolts, bushings and rust

Because it costs the company more time to drive to the hardware store, hunt for and dig through bins to save $2. When you are working on your own stuff your hardware store trip is free AND you get to drive there in the Jeep .

I know they aren't the cheapest, but if we (as a company) or I personally order them before about 5:00 they are in my hands by noon the next day. Even most of the local industrial bolt suppliers can't beat the convenience.

Yes I can agree for an order of 500 or more bolts. My point was for the average Joe working on their rig. I have access to Granger and McMaster thru work. When I buy any fasteners in quantity I’ll still use my hardware store because they’re a hell of a lot cheaper and I’ll have them in 20 mins. Grade 5, grade 8 and, stainless up to an 1 1/2 bolt and nut. Maybe my hardware store is not the norm but, the store is known for having everything that you’d need.

It really depends on what you need, where you are, and how long you're willing to wait.

A word of caution is in order regarding buying high strength bolts ala hardware store which is pedigree. Granger and McMaster Carr sell to various industries that require material certs. or certificates of conformance. You pay a bit more but you can be reasonably assured that Grade 8 bolt has a tensile strength consistent with ASME or ANSI standards. You may get what you think is a Grade 8 bolt from a hardware store and it is actually a bolt that does not meet the req'ts..

Why would anyone order from McMaster Carr or Granger for 11 bolts and pay their outrageous prices? You can get the same grade 5 or grade 8 bolt from a real hardware store. Plus you can have them when you leave.

The reason is that McMaster Carr and other industrial suppliers are more stringent in certifying materials than the bin at the hardware store. You can be reasonably assured that a Grade 8 bolt from one of these industrial suppliers has a tensile strength and material cert. consistent with ASME/ANSI specs.. That Grade 8 bolt you buy at the hardware store may have the appropriate markings but that does not guarantee the pedigree.

Our body bolts have much larger heads then the OEM bolts. We also had more luck smashing them into boulders (please don't do this lol). When it comes to the application though nearly anything that doesn't rust is going to be too soft of a metal. For instance stainless will likely break before it bends, and that's not good for something holding your tub on LOL However, we are trying to have titanium body mount bolts fabricated and somehow keep the cost low. We're back and forth with a couple places almost daily trying to figure it out. Is $200 a set too much for TJ or JK body mount bolts that will never bend, break or rust? But, most the people that order these CAN see why the price is higher. The heads on them are probably over double the size of OEM and the flange is welded 3 different ways. Not to sound cliche, but everything we sell is fabricated for us. The process our bolts goes through adds a good deal of strength. Hope this help.

Jeepbolts was a great source for the OEM-like body mount bolts, the cost from jeepbolts was a couple bucks cheaper than Crown bolts due to the discount, free shipping and no taxes, and much cheaper than buying through usual jeep vendors. Shipping was really fast from jeepbolts, got to my house 3 days after I submitted payment.

Most buyers want to spend as little as possible on bolts, so a $200 titanium set may be for a select crowd, and IMHO, given the option a few people may buy them, but the average Buyer will want to spend $25 on a set. Possibly selling the titanium bolts in different lengths so they can be paired with a body lift...

I do disagree that the jeepbolts bolts have larger heads than OEM bolts. Here are a couple of pics of my rusty OEM bolt next to a new Jeepbolts bolt.
