Body mount bushings

So I am looking to replace my body mount bushings because they are about to disintegrate.

Just replacing the 3 on each side under the doors.

Trying to figure out if these should work for all 6 total bushings I am replacing.

They are generally sold as a set but are available individually.

Find a source other then Morris as their service seems to be lacking lately based on several recent experiences.

Is it ok to replace just one lower bushing that’s rotted or do both the upper and lower need to be replaced together? Also can I just replace one (on driver side under doors) or should all 3 under the doors be replaced at the same time? Eventually I’ll replace them all with a kit, just wondering if handling that one for now is ok without doing them all at the same time.

The 3 on each side are all identical. The one in the rear (by the shocks) and in the front (radiator) are also identical. Between the 6 side and 3 front/rear, however, they are different.

I would base my replacement on what the root cause was. Old age = replace them all. Individual damage = replace 1. I can't imagine why you would only replace the bottom and not the top half as well - that would strike me as penny-wise/pound-foolish. Personally, I had 1 that looked like yours, but replaced them all since that was "old age".

In the NE they tend to rust. I tightened mine each a little bit first to crack the rust then slowly worked them out. While there is no such thing as a good broken bolt, these are especially onerous if you either break a bolt or break the body mount threads free....

Yes, it is ok to just replace that blown out mount cup for now…
The epiphany that usually occurs though is when you try to replace a complete mount in just one location and realize all the mounts need to be loosened up to gain enough clearance. If you are that far in you may as well do all the ones that will clearly need replacement soon anyways…

Whatever you decide, soak all the bolts/mounts liberally with penetrating oil! Every day or two until you actually do the job. When you think you have sprayed them with enough give them a little bit more…

Thanks for the advice! I just got my 98 TJ recently and never worked on cars before, so it’s all new to me. (I’m also a 45 yo woman and just starting my tool collection, a little at a time.) I agree the bushings should all be replaced. Fortunately I’ve been able to loosen all 6 side body mount bolts without issues. My hesitancy in replacing them all right now is just making sure I don’t mess up the tub alignment when I jack each side up… the more I work on the tj the more confidence I build. This forum is a great place to learn. Thanks again!

Do what you have to to break the bolts loose, but remove and lift one side at a time.

Yes, same process as putting a body lift on.

sorry to resurrect an old post: still new at this, and I searched for a body mount kit install video, but there didn't seem to be one in the "How to" section

I bought the crown body mount kit from QuadraTec, but it doesn't come with the large fender washers. Do i need those? or does the small end go up against the body of the Tj?? or should I just use the old hardware
