Bought Another LJR Because I Have Poor Impulse Control (Again) - 37's on Stock Axles

So I should be asking for a stripping then? I’m just not familiar enough with the process and don’t won’t wind up with something splotchy because I gave bad instruction.

Ideal outcome would be to bring this armor back to raw aluminum and finish in a way that looks decent. I like the look of what @taylormade73 posted earlier in this thread.

I was moving away from that after hearing that it won’t be something uniform I could work with. For simplicity sake I’m considering just going black, but don’t want a splotchy finish like is currently present.

We powder in house. Recently we had a major issue with a bunch of PL1/4 x 5' x 12' sheets of 5052 that had been hung on the outside of a 19 story office building. About 60 sheets total, laser cut in a "artistic" pattern. Had some adhesion issues, and we needed to strip all the panels and do it again.

Our options were bead blast or recut. Probably 2.5 - 3 hrs to blast each panel. We found someone local that put them in an oven at 600 degrees and burnt the coating off in five minutes. Cost us $20 per panel.

Now we just needed to wash and recoat. I don't if that would be an option for you, but I can run down some info on what they do regularly. Maybe find someone local to you with a similar set up.

This is one of the reworked panels. The burn-off was clean - if you wanted to re-grain it would be quick work.

Dang. That sounds like it could be worthwhile to look into. I'm in Southern Colorado, the armor is at my powder coater in Pueblo. Waiting on a few more pieces I ordered over Black Friday.

I should be working on this LJ - but marketplace strikes again. Hope to wrap up the little details on the black LJ tomorrow.

I didn't take hardly any before pictures unfortunately. But here's a few from when it was getting loaded to be shipped.

All the suspension joints were toast.

I installed a new grille and the King Coilovers. New RK suspension joints. New Tom Woods driveshaft, thanks to ROTM.

Changed all the fluids, replaced a bunch of hardware - including the door handles. Installed Bedrug and redid a bunch of wiring to clean things up some.

Installed new visors, trim pieces, shampooed the seats, installed risers. Fixed a vacuum leak and some bulbs - and cleaned about 10lbs of sand out of the thing. It rides and drives great. Pulling out onto the cliff was hairy though. The RubiCrawler was in low range, and it'll drive right through the brakes...

Said goodbye today. Marketplace came thru!

Got an extra 1K above asking to haul it to Denver. Was already coming with an empty trailer.

Bonus for me to snag lunch at my favorite restaurant.

Not the new one. This was the one I went to Texas for. I started “building” it - but bought the blue one during the process. Just wrapped up this one to get it sellable.

I was mentally prepared to take a loss on this one. While initially a “good” deal, it was in rough shape. I spent a lot of money and time getting it ready. Found a buyer within 12 hours of listing it, so maybe the market isn’t as soft as it appears?
You already sold the new lj?

so maybe the market isn’t as soft as it appears?

I think it's a bit different for the more built rigs. Many exotic LJ builds look flat out amazing to someone who hasn't been educated on what to look out for. I initially like the looks of many built rigs, but I wouldn't want their poor build choices.

Most buyers simply don't know any better (or don't care). We see examples of this in the "for sale finds" section...poor steering, poor suspension, poor brakes....yet, it will sell at decent number because of how it looks.

Well the new Blue rig performed great in Sand Hollow... Was fun watching ya tackle some of the obstacles.

thanks! Looking forward to getting more seat time. Let’s see if I can hold onto to that one a little longer. I’ve got two different guys hounding me to sell it to them once they found out they were too slow on this one.
