I have a chance to pick up a super clean rust free LJ for a great price. The catch is it has a branded title, due to a Lemon Law buyback. Other than resale value, is there any reason to worry about purchasing it? The title is actually clear, but when you run a Carfax it comes back with a Branded title. FWIW, the Jeep has been inspected and driven for the last 9 years with no issues.

Go for it, just remember when it's sell time the new buyer will expect a deal on it. You can always keep it till the wheels falloff or part it out.

They only time this will come into play is when it goes up for sale. There will be a percentage that will be scared off, some will be still interested, and some just won't care at all.

I'd do it.
Lemon law? What on earth for? I would think most issues have known solutions. All I think of, is maybe an inept dealer that couldn't figure a weird sensor issue or the like. Is it an '05 or '06 BTW?

First thing I would do is check with my insurance company to make sure I could get it insured for a decent value, and how much it would cost.

Anybody that understands the lemon laws would know that applied to the vehicle when new. Not a quarter century later. If you know what the defect was and can explain it to a next buyer then there should be minimal problems. It may scare 1 or 2 buyers off, but certainly a knowledgable buyer wouldn't care.

I'm likely going to pass, but only because I'm in search of a XJ to build. If someone is looking for a super deal, send me a message and I can provide details and price info.

2004. I couldn't get the story behind why, but it's been driven since that happened in 2005.

I'd buy it.
Later, do some investigating on your state motor vehicle website or NHTSA, with the vin.

I bought mine on a salvage title, my banks wouldn't do a standard car loan for it so I had to do a personal loan (higher interest rate), insurance didn't care. No issues with it in the past 20K miles.
