This is what I saw on Instagram.

At least 40 ships trapped in Baltimore Harbor. 30 prevented from entering.

847,158 autos and light trucks a year imported into the port.

Ranked first in the nation for: Autos, light trucks, agricultural and construction machinery, imported sugar, gypsum.

Ranked second for coal exports.

11.7 million tons of general cargo, 52.3 million tons of international cargo a year.

Ranks ninth nationally in both tonnage and dollar value.

15,300 direct jobs at the port and about 140,000 jobs overall linked to port activities.

That's out of a population of about 500,000 give or take in Baltimore.

I grew up in Baltimore, and actually worked at Seagirt Marine Terminal for a few years. I remember when the Key Bridge opened, and have gone over it hundreds of times. I’ve crabbed under it, and run boats under it heading into the Inner Harbor many, many times. It’s sad to see it come down. One of my sons sent me a text with the news at 4am this morning.

Lots of folks are talking about the traffic impact - but that will be localized. The real impact will be the interruption in shipping traffic until they can clear the channel. Baltimore is the largest RORO port in the U.S. Norfolk and New York will be able to take on some of that cargo, but the effect will be long lived.

It does appear that the ship’s crew gave notice of the problem, and somehow they were able to stop traffic. If you look closely at the video, there does not appear to be any cars on the bridge when it came down. But there was a lot of traffic just before. That’s incredible.

What a mess.

Officials were quick to rule out the catastrophe as intentional or an act of terrorism, and an early Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) report found the container ship 'lost propulsion' as it was leaving port.

'The vessel notified MD Department of Transportation (MDOT) that they had lost control of the vessel and an collision with the bridge was possible,' the report said. 'The vessel struck the bridge causing a complete collapse.'

Does anybody have an actual reason to have a theory of some kind of conspiracy? Or just US gunerment bad?

The real answer is depressing. Just return back to us in the naïve zone where accidents are real, happiness is thriving, and we ignore all the signs of big governments and the ultra rich controlling every aspect of life for their gain.

...She struck the southwest support column at a speed of 7.6 knots (8.7 MPH).

Cameras from the Vessel Traffic Service captured footage of the collision and subsequent collapse. The ship’s lights went out twice before the collision, indicating possible issues in the engine room. Despite the quick restoration of lighting, this suggests a full blackout occurred, prompting the emergency generator to restore basic electrical services and lighting.

Without propulsion or tugboats, a ship this size is nearly impossible to stop.

The emergency generator does not connect to propulsion but should support steering and navigation systems but the ships heading appears to have been pushed off course by the wind directly into the support column.

Ships are not required to have tugboat escorts when passing under the Francis Scott Key Bridge so they have limited ability to slow down on their own when they lose power and can not put the propeller into reverse.

According to past photos, she is equipped with a bow thruster. However, these are not typically connected to emergency power systems. Even if it were engaged, bow thrusters are designed for slow-speed maneuvers and have a limited ability to push the bow into the wind when the ship’s speed exceeds 5 knots.

Early morning photos of the ship show that the port anchor was dropped. However, it is unclear whether it was dropped before the collision in an attempt to slow down the ship, or after the collision.

gCaptain will continue to provide updates on this story as more details emerge.

That 2021 ship did draw a giant sky penis on the water, right? 😆

Yes, every single thing you see confirms to you the government is controlling everything. I get that.
