Broken spark plug thread

Sooo my cousins car wasn’t turning on properly told her it might be her spark plugs. She said to go ahead and check. Easy job I thought. The first plug was on there f**kn tight! I got it out without a problem. On to the next this plug, it was on there even tighter!Idk if they used a impact gun to install the plugs or whatI was using a 1/2 ratchet and no budge at all took out my breaker bar it moved just a tiny bit before the thread broke and the rest of the spark plug came off.
I was thinking of using penetrating oil but I thought it might hurt the engine. So I didn’t bother. Now I’m on my way to buy some and a square taper extractor.
Just have one question how do I put the extractor on a socket ?
I did find out why it wasn’t turning on properly..head gasket leak..

If the head gasket is leaking, take the head off before extracting the spark plug threads. It should be easier to get at it.

As far a socket type tool to fit a square shank, search for “tap socket”.

I agree though, the spark plug repair will be easier with the head off.

I never heard of this happening on a car but it was a huge problem on Ford trucks with V8s. The only thing I ever knew about them was to avoid them.

Maybe a little internet searching will get you some help if it's a Ford V8 or even if it's not.

Did my son's F150 with the 5.4 early last week and used the OTC plug removal tool with 100% success.

All three valve Ford V8s from that era had the issue. I used the OTC plug removal kit for my 2006 Mustang GT as well. Might work for the OP, but it's been a while since I used the tool so my memory is not recent.

I'll be honest, I've never heard of this happening with anything other than a Ford 4.6 or 5.4 three valve though.

I watched this video on the OTC kit looks like they had the thread already off and the other park of the spark plug was still in the motor. Don’t know if it would work with my situation being the thread is stuck in the motor.

Once the head is off, I'd soak both sides with penetrating oil, then tap in a square easy out to try to get the threads out. Hopefully the rest of the plugs come out easier too.

That’s my plan. I put penetrating oil yesterday and last night before I went to bed. I also put some on the other two plugs that I didn’t take off. I hope those don’t break.
