Guys, I know this horse has been beaten to death. I promise I have done my due diligence and read through all of the threads about bump stops. So, either I am more "special" than I think, or there is just too much out there garbling it for me. Here is my issue: My Jeep was stored most of its life and allowed to dry rot about every bit of rubber it has. My bumps stop will probably come off in a cloud of dust. I need advice on what I should replace them with. I have a 6" lift and am running 37" tires. I have an old Rusty's Acme threaded long arm system on her for the lift. My plans are to mildly take her off road but she's mostly my "classic car" that I am slowly rebuilding. Please send your suggestions my way.

***Your suggestions on re-gearing has changed her completely

Oh, if anyone could please let me know why I have become so obsessed, Id like the answer to that as well. ITS NOT CHEAP!

the upper part of the bump stops are foam I believe? If so I would just replace them with doorman factory replacements from rock auto. You might have something aftermarket, and I am not familiar with that lift kit.

you don't need anything fancy, what came from the factory is fine, but takes some work to pinpoint an exact spot for them to be most efficient.

unless your gonna take the rig apart and cycle the axles your best bet is to match the gap from the lower spring pad to the jounce cup to slightly less than what you have for extension on your shock stem.
if you have 4 1/4" of shock stem showing then you should have about 4 3/16" - 4 1/4" space from the spring pad on the axle to the cup that holds the jounce.

As a quick guide, far from doing it right, put a zip tie on each shock and as you drive and cycle the suspension the zip tie will get pushed down the shock and show how far the axle has moved. From there you can get a rough idea of how much bump stop you may need, or if you are bottoming out the shock on uptravel.
