I collect old sewing machines. Packing a sewing machine so it doesn't get destroyed in shipping is NOT easy, and its very difficult to convince sellers to pack them the right way - even if you offer to pay more. Cast iron is brittle, and it weighs a LOT, and if it doesn't get outright broken, it will smash and destroy the fragile wooden base - unless they're shipped SEPARATELY and packed the right way. I just spent several months restoring a wooden base that got smashed to Hell, and only then did I notice a part broken off of the related machine itself. Fortunately, the broken part doesn't affect operation nor is it visible in normal operating mode - but the machine is a bit of a unicorn, and I'm not happy about this...
