That’s a good idea for a home made cable. I’m a long time bicycler and I recall bike parts suppliers having cables that can be cut to fit with a crimp-on end for the cut side.

Sean is right in his description of the fix for the broken seat release cable. It's a discontinued part and it takes a bicycle cable to fix it.
i just finished my repair today- it took 2 days. Not a real fun job. The seat cover has to be loosened. It is fastened to the foam so complete removal isn't possible unless the entire seat is destroyed. The front of the seat cover and the back cover are joined at the bottom of the seat by three "C" style plastic clips, The back clips fit inside the front clips to join the two halves together.
WalMart carries new bicycle brake cables . There are 4 cables in the set. Use one of the shorter cables. You'll have to cut the cable to length. I did so with a cut-off wheel in my drill. But the end of the cable will FRAY easily, making it impossible to fit back inside it's black sheath. BEWARE of this.Tthe cable is very small diameter and hard to work with. The end will need soldered to
keep the strands together.
To fold my seat forward in the Jeep, I found the release lever along the side of the seat and stuck a long thin screwdriver
in there and it released the seat. Purely luck.
