Car pics too cool not to share

I couldn't resist here's another angle of a 1969 Ferrari 312 P.

Ferrari 312 P

Damn , the Italians can build some sexy looking cars!

...and aircraft as well. ;) Here's the 312 P spyder with Captain Pedro Rodriguez at the controls taking to the air at Nurburgring in 1969...a rather common site at most races held there...

If you'd like a little sound to go with the photo:

Was always partial to the more curvy predecessor to the 312 P, the 330 P3/4:

In case anyone needed additional evidence...

Here's Jackie Stewart launching his BRM P261 at the '66 German GP

Not to be outdone, Jackie Stewart launching the Matra MS84 fielded by Team Tyrrell in the same '69 German GP

And last but certainly not least, James Hunt getting air with the lovely high airbox Hesketh 308 in '74 or '75

While there were a number of spots at the Nurburgring ripe for taking off, many of these photos were likely snapped at the coincidentally named "Flugplatz" (which translates very roughly to "flying place"). This bit of track actually got it's name from a small air field that was in close proximity. Back in the days when F1 was better but deadlier. Gotta love it.

I got to go to a race at Nurburging when I was stationed in Germany.

To me, just remembering the track seems like quite a monumental challenge with 160 turns and 14+ miles in length (at the time), though that's nothing compared to the Isle of Man TT Snaefell Mountain Course with 219 turns and 37+ miles in length. I'm not convinced my huevos are grande enough for that kind of action. :D

I like to go fast. I used to like to go really fast, even on a bike, but those guys are nuts.

Not sure if I'd call them nuts, but they're very committed and confident in their abilities...as well as riding with at least a little fear to keep themselves in check. If I'm not mistaken, Milky Quayle had a pretty nasty accident there some years back. Long live the IOM TT!

I keep thinking I'd like to try one of the performance driving schools, but they're just too damn expensive to really get any time in. This one is nearby, but it's $2,000 for a day. https://www.fordperformanceracingschool.com/1-day-school/

Let me clear it with my CPA as a write-off since my job requires driving and I'll go. ;)

I’ve had some track time in 911s. About the best money I’ve ever spent.

What scares me now is not the bike, not the terrain, not the road, but the other things that move that I can't control, like an animal or another car. In the case of these bikes in the 200 mph range, all it would take is a bird in the wrong place. At 80, that would suck. At 180, pink mist and skid marks.

Now that's a Classic Truck Camper... Bet it's got a 440 in it too..

There used to be one of those about four blocks away from me, albeit a 2wd version. It was in super nice condition, and the guy owned it for years. It finally went away about eight years ago. What a cool looking rig!
