Hey guys. First post, so feel free to give me advice on protocol and verbiage for the site. Couldnt find much about a console build with what I have in mind. Looking for any pitfalls or improvements to make this upgrade efficient.
I've been customizing my 2002 Tj for a little over 2 years now, and some recent events have presented me with a golden opportunity for customization: under seat powered subs blew and center console cracked.
Current layout:
So I've taken out the subs and console, and am wondering what the best use of space is to build a sub box that is also a useable center console.
I'm running a Pioneer dbl din head unit with four 5 1/4 inch Infinity ref speakers (2 on the rollbar, 2 in the dash). Blown subs were Kenwood sw11. I do not recommend them to anyone who likes loud metal.
The previous console originally had space for the sub, but wiring is gone. I kept the wiring for the blown subs in place.
Desired outcome:
I'd rather not have subs under seats. Back seat comes out quite frequently, and I'd like lockable storage for under the front seats. Vegas summers call for a bikini top and doors off. Vegas can be sketchy in certain areas, so everything needs to be bolted down, and hidden.
Does anyone have experience with 6.5" subwoofers? I'm thinking that I can make a box with a couple of them mounted facing downward. They dont need much box volume, only half a cubic foot. Polyfill could also be applied to help with that. I could install 2 of them, possibly 3. Trying to get as much bass possible in this small space. Not for the purpose of waking the neighbors, but I dont want to push the speakers too hard. Thats one of the reasons I dont want a single 8 inch sub, I think it would blow as well.
3/4 MDF for the sub portion of the box. Possibly an ammo can on top of that, or just more 3/4 MDF.
Basically, what could you use, or what would you add into the design if you had a chance to start over with your console?
