I helped the new owner of one of my old Scouts change his oil today. He lives a couple blocks away and isn't the sharpest when it comes to vehicle maintenance. He bought my Scout on the condition that I'd help him with it now and then.
So today we did plugs, rotor, cap, oil and filter. The Scout has a 266 V8 with a dual sump oil pan. When I pull the oil plug I always stick my finger up inside and feel around for grit or worse. Today I found worse. When I pulled the second drain plug I found this.
It's about 1 inch by 1/2 inch.
The engine has had a valve tick for awhile that I could never track down and I always suspected something partially blocking an oil passage. Now I'm pretty sure of it.
