I want to take my cigarette lighter out of my Jeep and put a usb charger unit in it's spot. Does such a thing exist? I'm not talking about just plugging a USB adapter into the lighter hole, I want to completely remove lighter unit and replace with usb. I have tried looking on Amazon and Google but all I am finding is the style that you would plug into the lighter. My lighter in my Jeep is on the blink of extinction and I figure if I have to replace it, might as well just put what I want in the hole instead of another lighter and adaptor.

Thanks.

Oh, hopefully I got this in the right forum. Not sure if it should have been under gear?

I did the same thing. It's a fairly easy task. You just need to remove the factory pigtail and attach the wires to the new usb unit. I made mine always hot since I like having the ability to charge my phone while the jeep is off.

Easy peazy

Ok, my USB port came today. Just had to do a little grinding on the hole to make it a tad bigger. All works good and I can now charge my phone. :D Or at least have it plugged in when I am using the music portion of it. :D

Hi Im switching out the socket is there a video where it shows me what to do? I have the socket already I want to replace it with but I don’t know what to do. I also want it to have it would n even when my jeep is off.

With pics we could be more explicit, but there are 2 wires to the thing right now: a ground wire and a 12V that is only hot when the jeep is on. Your socket will have two tangs on the back. You'll probably have to cut the factory wiring and crimp on new terminals to connect it to the new socket. If you want it to be hot all the time, you'll have to cap off the existing hot wire and tap into some other wire that has contstant 12V. The easiest thing to do is to use a tap-a-fuse and plug it into the fusebox behind the glovebox. I think the fog lamps circuit is always hot, and is wired in even if you don't have fog lights. Mine was, anyway.

Or maybe you're asking how to get the dash bezel off to even get to the wiring?

This isn't exactly answering your question but it's another option to think about for you and/or others... I've been using the USB-C fast charging port on the front of my MXT275!

Buy one of the style shop above. However, don't buy one with only 1 watt out. Look for 2 threes, 2 fives. A five and a three. One watt will not charge my phone- it just stays the same percent even after hours plugged in. Threw that one away and bought one with 2 five...charges fast!
