Clanging noise

I bought a 2003 tj a few weeks back and it had a 3 inch suspension and a 3 inch body. Well I didn't care for the big body lift and wanted it off. So I took the easier route and bought a zone 1.25 inch body lift and replaced it. I just got done changing it out. Everything went fairly smooth and everything seems right. But when I start it up and push the clutch in I get a clinking sound not real loud but gets faster if you applie some gas. But it's just when I push the clutch in. When I let out it goes away. I haven't driven it any yet. Trying to figure it out before I mess somthing up. It also has motor mount blocks. I'm guessing was for the 3 inch body, well I know it was. I didn't remove it because it looked like I had plenty of clearance. Anyone ever have a problem like this.

I'm sure some experts will be along shortly. What is the height of the MML?
Did it do this before you took out the body lift?
(Smart move pulling the 3 inch body lift. Those things are not safe. Anything more than 1.25-1.5 are generally considered unsafe.)

It sounds to me like the radiator fan is hitting the fan shroud. Try spinning the fan in the fan shroud when the jeep (wow I just typed car ) is off and see if it clears it with no rubbing of the fan shroud.

The fan was my first guess too but it's all clear. Weird how it only does it with clutch pushed in. The MML is only a 1 inch block. Which should be okay with the 1.25 BL, correct? It almost sounds like somthing is hitting the fly wheel. But i dont know what or how. I have been by my self. I'll get another hand and see if I can better locate the noise.

Correct I have a 1 inch mml, and a 1.25 body lift as well and mine is fine. Sorry I can't be of more help. Like I said I'm sure an expert will be along at some point. If it makes you feel any better my jeeps on jack stands too and it's my DD. I had to drive to my parents house and borrow one of their jeeps while I fix mine.
Report back if you find anything out. Try turning on off on off on off on and seeing if any codes pop up. I doubt they will but it's worth shot

I figured it out. With the motor off and turning the fan by hand it cleared the shroud. And even with the motor on at an idle it cleared. I got someone to work the clutch while I watched and listened. And when they pushed it in the motor torqued back just a little bit and it was just enough for the fan to barely catch to upper most part of the shroud. It was tight to begin with and that little bit of tourque did it.

I know most of you guys are highly advanced moreso than I am in these things but I just want to ask if you ever did anything with your clutch release bearing? In my simple mind, the only thing operated by depressing the clutch pedal is the release bearing and if it gets noiser with increasing revs I can only think of that component as something to suspect. Good luck Charley finding the problem.

I know most of you guys are highly advanced moreso than I am in these things but I just want to ask if you ever did anything with your clutch release bearing?
