Climate Temperature Knob Not Working

I have a 99 Sahara I recently purchased in November. The guy I purchased it from said the temperature control did not work and gave me a blend door actuator he got in the mail that day. The blower location and fan speed work fine, it is just the temperature knob that’s not working. It was cold this winter, and my Jeep was stuck on heat so I had no reason to look into the problem. As the heat and humidity start to roll in I realize the need for my AC. I replaced the blend door actuator, but it did not solve the problem. When i turn the temperature knob to heat the actuator continually tries to turn the heat up even more, but it can’t and makes a clicking sound from the actuator. It also does not turn the temperature all the way to cold. The weirdest problem is that the actuator will only go to full heat or attempt to go to full cold. If I put the knob in the middle it will stay at full heat until I cross over into the blue at that point it tries going to full cold. I do have a multimeter but haven’t used it much and not sure exactly what I would be checking. Thanks for any help or leads to my problem in advance! Oh and by the way the clicking noise from the actuator will occur even when it is not screwed into position so I don’t think it’s the door actually being jammed.

Is it possible the door is not installed in the correct position? In other words when it's all the way closed it doesn't think it's all the way closed and is still trying to close it more, hence the clicking, and when it turns to cold it stops short because it thinks it's all the way open.

X2, make sure the blend door is in the correct position matching the position of the climate control knob when installing.

Prior to mounting the actuator, you can verify that it is operating properly by turning the climate control knob and watching the white plastic part that looks like a gear spin back and forth.

I’ve toyed with that idea. The reason I don’t think that’s the problem is because the actuator will click towards heat when not installed. Also the actuator does not seem to react properly to the temperature knob. Like I said it either wants to go to full heat or try to go to full cold. I could not get the actuator to go to the middle of the temperature settings.

The actuator gear will not match the input from the temperature knob. If I move the job to say middle of the dial it will not react. When I cross a tad into the blue it will try going to extreme cold. When I move the dial a tad into the hot it will go to extreme heat and continue clicking towards heat.

Then my guess it’s either the controls or the door end. If you can find a used control set or somebody that would let you swap. Or spring for new and rule out one or another. I know control is an easy swap.

I don’t have the same set up in my 97, but if it’s a Potentiometer type control it sounds like a problem with the switch.

My wife's 2017 wrangler is having the same issue. It's either all the way cold or all the way hot. No middle ground. I've changed the blend door actuator and still having the same issue. Could it be the climate control unit bad? Her rear defrost doesn't work either
