Commo!

Yaesu and ICOM are my two favorites for mobile VHF/UHF gear. I installed an ICOM IC-V8000 75 watt 2m rig into my previous TJ, it was a great rig. I liked its front-firing speaker and that its big heat sinks eliminated the need for a noisy fan. It has been replaced by newer units but it's still available and still a great performing and very rugged radio.

Another option is Kenwood. I use a TM-281A 2m in the jeep and am awaiting a TM-V71A dual band to install in another vehicle

Kenwood mics have a solid feel and IMO the controls are more intuitive than either Icom or Yaesu. [However, it's really personal preference more than quality. Any of the "Big 3" brands are good. I run a Yaesu FT-90A in my Xterra.]
